Operations Research Engineer (SK)

Job Description

This position is associated with the sale of Intel’s NAND memory and storage business to SK hynix (You can read more about the transaction in the press release - https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2020/10/nand-memory-news-q-a.pdf). The transaction will enhance the resources and potential of the business’ storage solutions, including client and enterprise SSDs, in the rapidly growing NAND Flash space amid the era of big data.  

This is an exciting time to be at Intel – come join our team as a DTM Central Industrial Engineer and work on one of the most advanced 3DNAND and SSD technology portfolios in the world. As the global leader in the semiconductor industry, Intel possesses many industry-leading SSD technologies including the most capable Quadruple Level Cell (QLC) NAND Flash products. As a DTM Central Industrial Engineer, you will be part of a world-class team that will transition to lead the SSD business at SK hynix.  

This position aligns to Phase 2 of the transaction, which includes NAND technology and component development along with fab operations. Employees aligned to Phase 2 will continue to be employed by Intel and will continue to develop NAND technology and components and manufacture NAND wafers at the fab. Phase 2 of the transaction is expected to close in March 2025, at which time employees aligned to this phase of the transaction will transition employment to SK hynix. 

The Non Volatile Memory Solutions Group (NSG) Manufacturing team is looking for an Operations Research Engineer to develop, implement and sustain models driving the optimization of manufacturing capital and planning in Folsom, California. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic planning processes and future of NSG.

Through a detailed understanding of our business objectives and the manufacturing supply chain you will collaborate with internal and external stakeholder to optimize our capital forecast supply commitments. You will be part of a supportive team working in a demanding and fast-paced environment that values safety, integrity, quality, creativity, results and inclusion.

In this role you will be the application owner for at least one of our long-range planning systems; responsible for maintenance, and continuous improvement of the system today as well as creating a vision and executing towards our application needs in the future.

On any given day you are likely to find yourself starting off by participating in a daily scrum meeting, followed by:

  • Developing software systems that incorporate optimization and visual analytics to solve complex global supply chain problems.
  • Working with data engineers and/or data analysts to procure and test data for input to planning systems, or mining for business insights.
  • Proposing innovative modeling approaches or algorithms and reviewing the designs or code of other engineers.
  • Testing models and code for quality and scalability.
  • Collaborating with other operations research engineers or planning analysts to provide high quality decision support through operations research methods.
  • Developing and maintaining software documentation and user manuals.


Qualifications

The below minimum qualifications must be met to be considered for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS and/or MS in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Computer Science or equivalent field.
  • Minimum 4+ years of:
  • Professional or academic experience with simulation/modeling of complex processes, real world application of operations research methods (Linear Programming, Mixed Integer Programming, Constraints programming, ect.).
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL and database management systems.
  • Experience with at least one object oriented programming language ( Python, C#, ect.).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience putting emerging ideas into practice through rapid experimentation and prototyping.
  • Experience as part of a project team & ability to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Fab Manufacturing & lean manufacturing principles.
  • Financial knowledge including wafer cost, capital depreciation and ROI .calculations.
  • Familiarity with commercial optimization/constraints programming tools such as ILOG CPLEX, Concert, Gurobi, etc.
  • Data analytics and visualization experience (SQL, Tableau, Power BI, ect.).
  • Expert in mathematical optimization and decomposition of complex problems for custom solutions.
  • Project management or agile scrum experience.
