This position is associated with the sale of Intel's NAND memory and storage business to SK Hynix (You can read more about the transaction in the press release - The transaction will enhance the resources and potential of the business' storage solutions, including client and enterprise SSDs, in the rapidly growing NAND Flash space amid the era of big data.

This is an exciting time to be at Intel - come join our ECC team as a Undergrad Intern Technical - ECC RTL, Software, FPGA Design Co-op and work on one of the most advanced 3DNAND and SSD technology portfolios in the world. As the global leader in the semiconductor industry, Intel possesses many industry-leading SSD technologies including the most capable Quadruple Level Cell (QLC) NAND Flash products. As a Undergrad Intern Technical - ECC RTL, Software, FPGA Design Co-op, you will be part of a world-class team that will transition to lead the SSD business at SK Hynix.

This position aligns to Phase 1 of the transaction, which includes the 3DNAND enterprise and client SSD business. Phase 1 is expected to close in late 2021, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions. At deal close, all employees aligned to this phase of the transaction will transition to SK Hynix.

A co-op term with Intel of Canada's Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group is a challenging but rewarding experience, allowing you to gain knowledge and experience in design and test of IC and module products for the next generation of Solid State Drives (SSDs). As a member of our Systems Engineering team, you will work alongside experienced engineers to solve new and interesting problems, making an important contribution to our exciting high-performance SSD projects.

Undergrad Intern Technical - ECC RTL, Software, FPGA Design

Intel Vancouver's Error Correction Codes (ECC) team is a dedicated team within the broader ASIC team that specializes in detecting and fixing bit errors in our cutting edge NAND flash and 3DXPOINT non-volatile memories. We conduct research to develop powerful ECC algorithms to implement as digital logic on a solid-state drive (SSD) controller ASIC. The ECC RTL, Software, FPGA Design Co-op will employ a variety of skills in ASIC design, C programming, and FPGA simulations to design and prove the functionality of functional blocks. This position will involve a steep but rewarding learning curve.

We are looking for enthusiastic students with communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving ability, a desire to learn and a good general knowledge of embedded systems, digital design, software/firmware development and testing methodology.


You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your school work/classes/research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The candidate must be pursuing a BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • Digital logic design (VHDL, Verilog)

  • RTL testbench simulations (QuestaSim, VCS)

  • Object-oriented programming (C/C++, Java)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Digital system design (finite state machines, RAMs)

  • SystemVerilog, Universal Verification Methodology (UVM)

  • FPGA experience (Intel, Xilinx)

  • Scripting languages (Perl, C-shell)

  • Enthusiasm for math and solving challenging problems

Non-Volatile Solutions Memory Group:  The Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group is a worldwide organization that delivers NAND flash memory products for use in Solid State Drives (SSDs), portable memory storage devices, digital camera memory cards, and other devices.  The group is responsible for NVM technology design and development, complete Solid State Drive (SSD) system hardware and firmware development, as well as wafer and SSD manufacturing.

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in US, Colorado:
$52,000.00-$147,000.00 (Hourly Role)
