Test Process R&D Engineer

Job Description

A successful candidate will be responsible for the definition, development and transfer of test processes, new capability and equipment into Intel's Assembly/Test virtual factory and labs.

Duties include research and development of new process technologies, comprehension of customer requirements, manage process development, collaborate with internal and external development partners, support virtual factory ramp, and technical problem solving to ensure that transfer certification goals are met.

  • The position requires extensive interaction with technology development partner organizations, product divisions, Quality and Reliability (Q&R) and Assembly/Test factories.
  • Scope of work includes developing HDMx test modules for System-on-a-Chip (SoC) and Client computing products.
  • A successful candidate will provide leadership for the technology development team and be a key interface for groups internal and external to Sort Test Technology Development (STTD).

This is an entry level position and will be compensated accordingly.


You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position.

Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Knowledge and/or experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your school work/classes/research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences.


  • Master's degree (Electrical Engineer or Mechanical Engineer) with 3 years of related experience or PhD degree (Electrical Engineer or Mechanical Engineer).

The ideal candidate has demonstrated ability to own projects with limited supervision, balance technical and business requirements, organize and schedule cross-functional team tasks and identify and drive key issues to closure.

  • Familiarity with some of the following: mechanical and electrical schematics, board-level debug, hardware test, measurement equipment, mechanical systems, thermal systems, control systems and/or software development.
  • Knowledge of experimental design and statistical concepts, including statistical data analysis and design of experiments with experience using JMP.


  • Manufacturing experience in a High Volume Manufacturing (HVM) environment, resolving issues on the floor hands-on, working with manufacturing technicians and operators, generating and improving Response Flow Checklists (RFCs).
  • Background in process or equipment development, equipment design, device testing methods or concepts, experience with external supplier management.
  • Developing advanced process control systems (PCS), and analyzing complex sets of development and high volume manufacturing data.
