Software Application Engineer: Industrial Internet of Things (m/f/d)

Job Description

This is a unique position for an experienced software engineer aspiring to help shape the future software and hardware platforms and technologies for the world-changing phenomena Internet of Things (IoT), in particular the Industry 4.0. The position combines cutting-edge software engineering work with project management and customer relations. In this role you will be working with the leading European and multinational IoT companies as well as with Intel product teams to port, optimize, enhance, and help bring to market the software solutions for IoT, using Intel's latest and upcoming platforms and technologies.

You will support and influence software developers at the partner companies during all phases of the software development cycle, incl. feature definition, project setup, project execution, and tech support for go-to-market. You will use your practical experience to offer technical training, consultation, and hands-on software engineering assistance to software developers in the areas of software architecting, code development, Intel software tools usage, testing and tuning of software applications for IoT.

You will interface with Intel Product Engineering to resolve software related problems that impede the customers' success. You will provide technical feedback to Intel product groups to enhance upcoming Intel platforms, technologies, tools, and products in the area of IoT. As a technology consultant to Intel Sales and Marketing groups, you will be helping promote Intel platforms to software developers as the best hardware foundation for IoT software solutions end-to-end. You will also be responsible for research, authoring, and presentation of technical papers.

Qualifications

Software engineering for IoT involves an unprecedented variety of technologies.

  • The successful candidate should have MS degree (or equivalent) in a scientific or engineering discipline, or BS degree with over three years of experience.
  • Understanding of Intel Architecture, or another processor, SoC, or DSP architecture is expected, ideally along with platform subsystems such as DRAM, PCIe, USB, PCH, PMIC, BIOS, etc.
  • Experience in programming in C/C++ is a must, as proven by practical experience developing software for PC, Server / HPC, IoT/Embedded, Robotic, Mobile, and/or CE platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Linux*/UNIX* or Windows* family operating systems is required. Experience with real-time OSes such as VxWorks or Zephyr is a strong plus. Closer familiarity with OS architecture, kernel level and driver development experience are highly desired.
  • Experience in modern scripting tools, such as Python*, Perl*, Javascript*, etc. as proven by practical experience developing software is a strong plus.
  • Experience in developing for Cloud technologies and standards such as Openstack, Containers, Kubernetes and StarlingX, especially in application to Edge-Cloud solutions, is a strong plus.
  • Practical experience in Big Data, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning technologies is a plus, as is familiarity with Computer Vision and Media Analytics technologies.
  • Experience working with Intel software tools Intel System Studio (ISS), Intel C/C++ Compiler, VTune, MKL, Intel System Trace etc. is a strong plus.
  • Particularly desired are experience in developing real-time sensitive applications, for process automation or other purposes. Skills in the following technologies are highly relevant: real-time computing, IEC 61131-3 Soft PLC programming, IEEE time-sensitive networking (TSN), and industrial field buses such as EtherCAT* or Profinet*.
  • Experience in planning and execution of software projects, as well as in software testing, benchmarking, analyzing, and optimizing; familiarity with software project tools such as Jenkins, Bazel, Git, are an additional strong plus.
  • This role requires strong time and project management skills. On-site customer support may involve travel to destinations across Europe and worldwide. Therefore, a successful candidate must be able to travel.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills, good communication and presentation skills in front of technical audiences are essential.
  • German or French language is a plus.
