Working Student Database Info System (f/m/d)

Job Description

For this position we are searching for a student who has started her/his Master studies and is interested in a long term cooperation for more than 1 year. The preferred candidate is expected to work in average 16-20 hours per week. However, we enable flexibility due to exams/ semester break.

In this position, you will be responsible for Maintenance, Optimization, Improvement and Enhancement of an up and running Information System and Database, as well as data creation. You will be part of our open minded and strategic oriented team in an emerging environment. W

Oracle-based Information System:
The basic functionality of the existing Information System and Database should be enhanced on a self-reliant and self-dependent base.
The Information System web application is mainly developed in JAVA, based on the Model-View-Controller architectural pattern (MVC). Additional technologies, languages and APIs include: JavaServerPages, JavaScript, CSS, HTML and JDBC. Advanced knowledge in SQL scripting is necessary. The project is set up using Eclipse development environment, including the Subversion (SVN)-Plugin for versioning and revision control.
The working packages of the SW-Releases vary in complexity and can be featured and formed by the student as well.
The Oracle-DB is connected to a DWH and BI Software and Analysis/Reporting Programs such as BIRT (Open Source Business Intelligence and Reporting Tool).

Main responsibilities:

  • Continuous Improvement of the Information System
  • Extension of the Information System capabilities through implementation of new features
  • Investigations concerning Data cleaning (Data-Mining, Data-Integrity)

The daily work could also contain:

  • Improvement support for the database system and the data structures
  • Data research and data collection for latest communication systems and trends
  • Responsibility for data consistency in an internal information system (Oracle based)
  • Generating both trend and dedicated reports
  • Verification Methodology


  • Master student in the area (Applied) Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, (Applied) Informatics
  • Interest in electronics
  • Good understanding of relational DB (e.g. Oracle) and experience with SQL, JAVA, CSS, HTML
  • Knowledge respectively willingness and ability to learn: MVC, J2EE, JSP, JS, JDBC, SVN, Eclipse, Tomcat Server
  • German and/or English (good verbal and writing skills)


  • Experience in Analytics Software (e.g. BIRT, SAP BI) is an advantage
  • MS-Office/ VBA is an advantage
