Intel's Information Technology (IT) group designs, deploys and supports the information technology architecture and hardware and/or software applications for Intel. This includes the LAN, WAN, telephony, data centres, client PCs, Backup and Restore, and Enterprise Applications. The Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) team on the Ireland site provides 24hr maintenance support to the product delivery systems within clean room environment.

As an Automation Controls Engineer in the AMHS  group, you will be responsible for carrying out critical changes to manufacturing software control systems. You will be required to apply advanced troubleshooting to automation system problems and drives continuous improvement efforts to meet automation systems health goals, as well as emerging capability needs. This position may include some software development of related enhancements, supplemental systems, and/or support and monitoring tools. You can also expect to interact with a broad array of internal customers comprised of engineers from process, equipment and product groups. High attention to detail will be expected to prevent unintended changes or process variations. As issues arise, you will be required to troubleshoot and provide manufacturing support including off hours on a rotational on-call assignment basis.


  • Integrates, tests, installs, configures, and/or supports Factory automation software systems.
  • Coordinates factory requirements, maps them to automation systems capabilities, and recommends technical solutions.
  • Applies advanced troubleshooting to automation system problems.
  • Drives continuous improvement efforts to meet automation systems health goals, as well as emerging capability needs.
  • Serves as site expert for a designated set of automation systems, including representing integrated needs in crossfunctional and crosssite teams.


  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering, Science, Computer or IT.
  • 2+ years' work experience within Automation systems, Integrated Unix systems or equivalent.
  • Experience with Unix and a strong familiarity with VB scripting, data extraction analysis including SQL query and Log Analyzer.
  • Understanding of semiconductor process flow technology and theory of constraint management
  • Ability to work as part of a team or to work on own initiative.
  • Strong Communication (written and verbal) skills and analytical problem solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to coordinate, lead, and develop teams (improvement, preventative, corrective, and sustaining).
  • People interactive skills with all organization levels in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to work remotely with people as they will also be supporting factories outside of Ireland
  • Ability to follow procedures and change control processes.
  • Candidate will also be required to be on call 24 x 7 (Rota) for their applications for support not only for Ireland but for the Virtual Factory.
