Summer Internship - CPU Tracing Framework

Job Description
A program trace (check-point based), is a critical input to the CPU performance simulator, used for designing the next generations of processors. Due to the speed of cycle accurate CPU performance simulators, the trace cannot include the entire workload (program), but only a portion of it. But this portion should accurately represent the entire workload.
Capturing a representative and partial trace from a real-world workload is a complex task involving expertise from different domains and decisions based on data from different sources and analysis tools. It's a mixture of science, engineering and art.
We want to simplify the tracing process. Make it as automatics as possible. Let the "machine" gather data and make decisions when possible, or approach the user for help as required. We name this "machine" the Tracing Framework.
The definition of this project is flux at this stage, but will be defined with the relevant candidate at the proper time. This project will include experimenting and implementing a component from the CPU Tracing Framework.


Qualifications

Software hands-on 2nd or 3rd degree student
Experience with Python is an advantage
Familiarity with simulation is an advantage
