The Developer Products Division (DPD) within the Software and Services Group (SSG) is looking for a Software Engineer to join their growing team! The candidate will support research and development into the communication characteristics of applications on various fabric (computer network and interconnect) architectures. The candidate will be a member of a small, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary software team working closely with network fabric architects. The software team is responsible for developing and applying methodologies to simulate realistic workloads on future platforms and influence architectural trade-offs. The team will also develop and port open source workloads to the target environment. This will enable the evaluation of representative workloads on the fabrics as design alternatives are considered and implemented by the network fabric architecture team.The qualified candidate will be part of a workload modeling and projection team for high performance network fabrics. The successful candidate will study and characterize key applications based on OpenSHMEM and PGAS/UPC. In many cases, workloads will be run in a fabric simulator which models both existing and future fabric designs. Focus will be on how the applications performance changes, relative to the interface with the system software and hardware. The goal is to identify what is and is not possible in programming models, such as OpenSHMEM and PGAS/UPC today relative to threading and the network. We will examine opportunities to modify the specifications, to allow better thread interaction and help to change the system software and hardware appropriately. This is a hands-on software engineering position requiring the ability to work as a part of a functional team in a rapidly evolving technical environment.
