Android Software Engineer

Job Description
We are looking for a highly motivated SW Engineer with deep Android development experience who cherishes working in a collaborative, high-performance environment. As a key part of NDG's Core Platform software team, you will be responsible for architecting, designing and developing Android libraries and applications, and platform components relevant to the wearables segment.The position requires a mature understanding of and deep experience in Android development; and Bluetooth and BLE development.You will be responsible for comprehending the developer requirements for an array of existing and future wearable devices and systems, and participate in setting the technical direction of critical Android projects. You will make high level design choices for the software structure, frameworks, protocols, and algorithms. You will work with others to determine priorities for development and resourcing of critical projects. You will define and evolve the architecture for such platforms, comprehending HW-SW interfaces, advanced and innovative toolchains, Android application and library requirements. You must be hands on and exceptionally skilled as it relates to programming / coding. You enjoy and are artful both in actively coding, as well as advising and supporting others.Key Responsibilities:-Work closely with a cross functional team including product management, engineering, product marketing to define, architect and design platform features. -Define, provide technical direction, and lead the development of critical systems services and Android development toolchains, using modern best of breed technologies. -Write both prototype and production Java code, develop technologies, and build valuable IP.-Design and analyze workflows spanning across cloud, mobile and embedded platforms. -Building and maintaining strong relationships with peer software and hardware engineering teams, product teams and system integration teams.-Review code and designs. -Be an active participant in an Agile Scrum environment. -Drive innovation within the team. Help define the next generation of platform features, and developer tooling.


-Bachelors of Engineering in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent job experience. -Min. 5 years of software development experience. -Experience building Android libraries and applications for mass-market consumer embedded devices using Bluetooth Classic and BLE.-Technical proficiency in cross-platform application development technologies and platform abstraction strategies.-Demonstrated ability to listen, understand, and respond professionally to customer questions and/or issues.-Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with Android developer tools and build environments-Be fluent in various programming languages/techniques including at-least Java (Android). Knowledge of C and Python, Javascript, Objective-C, and Swift is a plus. -Experience contributing to open source projects is desired.-Experience in at least one server-side framework is a plus: Node.js/React, Python/Tornado/Django, PHP, Ruby on Rails, etc. Experience with containers is a plus.-Experience in building scalable web applications in cloud-based environments is a plus -Have excellent debugging and problem solving skills -Have a strong working knowledge of Unix/Linux, Mac, Windows, and Embedded Systems -Experience working on Agile Scrum projects is highly desirable. -Experience working with remote teams, and working remotely as an individual, is required.
