Research Scientist - Visual Cloud

Job Description
We are forming a new team to explore visual cloud infrastructure hardware and software design within Systems and Software Research lab in Intel Labs. We are looking for forward looking individuals looking to make an impact in our rapidly evolving and dynamic industry. We are an innovative research group that will work closely with key product groups, industry partners and academic research communities to advance the state of the art in visual data processing systems. Though we focus primarily on systems software (e.g., OS, hypervisor, file system, and storage system), our research covers all aspects of emerging processor, memory and storage technologies.This position works with team members in constructing prototypes, running workloads and collecting data for contemporary and forthcoming visual computing applications focusing on storage formats, querying capabilities, edge to cloud interface, communication challenges and heterogeneous scheduling of the visual compute pipeline. Research platforms of interest include, but are not limited to, parallel/distributed programming frameworks, local and distributed (in-memory) file storage, cloud storage, databases (graph, relational, and unstructured), cluster schedulers, and heterogeneous programming frameworks/schedulers.This role collaborates closely with Architects and Engineers from across Intel to influence next generation storage systems.


Qualifications

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum qualifications and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience would be obtained through your educational level research and/or relevant job/internship experiences.Minimum qualifications:- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar technical discipline- Be able to demonstrate expertise of work and/or educational experience in the following areas:- Experience with Linux development environments- C/C++ programming; especially developing multi-core/multi-threaded Software- Application and OS storage and memory management- Software development, code tuning, ability to craft and integrate/debug solutions within existing frameworks/code- Strong written and verbal communication skills- Ability to put together data collection scenarios, execute them, and profile platform level performance- Experience developing software prototypes with the specific intent of answering a research question- Experience with workloads and solutions that deal with efficiently moving large amount of data between storage and memory or across machines within a data center or across data centersPreferred qualifications:- Java family of languages- Knowledge of build systems like maven- Knowledge of Intel architecture and processor, in particular memory management- One or more core storage technologies such as: file systems, storage protocols, caching, etc.- Experience with parallel and distributed programming frameworks like SPARK- Experience with machine learning applications, graph libraries and algorithms- Experience with media processing, GPU/accelerator code development and scheduling
